To begin use, turn the unit on and pointing at the ground, a 'quiet' RF direction, for initial setup of Volume and Threshold. |
Setup is quick and easy. Simply set Course and Fine Thresholds controls to minimum, adjust the Volume control so that the audio tone is at a high but comfortable level, and then raise the Threshold until the audio tone decreases to a low but audible level. |
| |
Now scan the local environment for RFI. Hold the unit up with the long axis parallel to the ground and with the antenna radome pointing away from you. Slowly rotate your body an entire 360 degrees to scan the entire area. |
If the level of the audio tone increases at any point, RFI was detected. The direction the unit is pointing when the audio tone is at it's loudest is the direction from which the RFI is originating. Depending on the strenght of the RFI, readjustment of the Volume and Threshold controls might be necissary. |
| |
Rotate the unit so the long axis is vertical to scan up/down or to increase detectability of horizontally polarized signals. |
